I very rarely read children’s books but with two young sons and one who has recently discovered Roald Dahl at school I couldn’t resist picking this up at the library. And it was and still is my absolute favourite book by him. I first read this at the age of 9/10. Now reading it as an adult it is a very relevant story and one of his that is more on the serious side told in a fun way.

My Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars
Dahl was simply a master of his craft. Typically writing zany, weird and wonderful characters. This is not one of those typical stories and that is why I love this one the most. A beautiful story of Danny’s relationship with his father. After the loss of his mother Danny’s father is left to raise him alone. Teaching him the ways of the world in a way that only he knows how. Their simple existence and the no need for material things in life is refreshing. Simply spending time together enjoying being together and the immense love they share is the most beautiful thing about it all.
About The Author The son of Norwegian parents, Roald Dahl was born in Wales in 1916 and educated at Repton. He was a fighter pilot for the RAF during World War Two, and it was while writing about his experiences during this time that he started his career as an author.
His fabulously popular children’s books are read by children all over the world. Some of his better-known works include James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr Fox, Matilda, The Witches, and The BFG.
He died in November 1990.
