Inspired by Sarah Northwood, Author exceptional and relatable poetry, I have gotten my notebook and pen out today and written a couple of pieces. I am in no way a professional writer and I am still exploring the possibilities of one day becoming an author. But this is great practice for the future and something I can always look back on. Anxiety is my biggest problem and writing pieces like this helps me to explain what it feels like and I hope others can relate.
Keeping you at bay
A box, a draw, a cupboard, a tray. Ever so untidily I try and pack you away.
A blanket, a shawl, a duvet.
Ever so frantically I try and cushion you for another day.
A lyric, a tune, a song.
Ever so musically I try and keep you at bay.
A lion, a cheetah, a tiger, a wolf.
Ever so quickly I dash, I am not your prey.
A rope, a maze, a piece of spaghetti. Ever so hastily I try and reel you in before you fray.
A count, a breath, a beat. Ever so methodically I push you down without delay.
A smile, a laugh, a happy face. For anxiety is not the face I portray. Kayleigh Louise (c)
The way you make me feel.
The way you make me feel
A head full of lead, a dark mist descending over my eyes.
It’s the way you make me feel.
A tiny boat, alone, stuck out at sea, aimlessly I float.
It’s the way you make me feel.
A nameless face, in a crowd. Shrouded in mystery and so very black. Stalking around every corner, silently you creep.
It’s the way you make me feel.
A scramble, unnecessary clutter. Scattered and disheveled.
It’s the way you make me feel. Kayleigh Louise (c)
